Coverage methodology

This page explains what Price Match Paradise means by retailer coverage, how shoppers should interpret a result, and how future comparisons with flyer and price-comparison apps will be tested.

Core definitions

Supported retailer

A retailer source the app can query. Support is not a promise that every product or location will return a result.

Product match

An offer identified as the same product using available identifiers and attributes such as UPC, model, brand, size and variant.

Available price

A listed retailer offer available to the app at query time. It may differ from a local shelf price and may exclude tax, shipping or membership conditions.

Price-match option

A lower offer that may be useful when reviewing a retailer policy. Only the retailer can decide whether the request qualifies.

Result process

  1. The shopper scans a barcode or enters a product query.
  2. The app searches supported retailer sources.
  3. Candidate offers are matched using the product information available.
  4. Results are presented for comparison, with links shoppers can use to verify the retailer listing.
  5. For a multi-store list, route estimates can account for distance, driving time and fuel assumptions.

Known limitations

  • Retailers can change prices, stock and page structure without notice.
  • Online, marketplace, member and local-store prices may differ.
  • Retailer data may be incomplete, delayed or unavailable.
  • Barcodes do not always identify every regional package or store-specific variant.
  • Route savings are estimates and depend on the shopper's inputs and actual driving conditions.
  • A displayed offer is not a guarantee of price-match eligibility.

Competitor coverage benchmark protocol

Price Match Paradise will not claim broader product coverage from marketing impressions alone. A publishable benchmark should use the following reproducible process:

  1. Choose a dated, disclosed sample of at least 100 common products across groceries, household goods, personal care, electronics and hardware.
  2. Record the UPC or exact model, test country, postal area, device, app version and test time.
  3. Search the identical sample in each comparison app without substituting a different product.
  4. Record whether the exact product is found, how many current retailer offers appear, and whether the result can be independently opened and verified.
  5. Publish the complete anonymized result table, failures and methodology—not only the winning examples.
Benchmark status: no controlled Price Match Paradise-versus-Flipp coverage result is published yet. Until the study is completed, the site should describe functional differences without claiming a measured coverage victory.
