Target no longer matches competitors. Since July 28, 2025, Target only matches its own lower prices: a lower price in a Target store, on Target.com, in the Target app or through a Target Circle deal. You can ask at checkout or within 14 days after purchase. Amazon, Walmart and other retailers' prices are no longer matched.
What changed in Target's price match policy
For years, Target matched a list of competitors including Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy. That ended on July 28, 2025. Target now describes its policy as matching within its own ecosystem only, and it updated the rules again in January 2026, including how Target Circle deals work with price matches.
| Before July 2025 | Now | |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. | Matched | Not matched |
| Target.com / Target app price | Matched | Matched |
| Target price drops after purchase | 14 days | 14 days |
What Target still matches
- Target.com and the Target app: if the online price is lower than the shelf, you can get the lower price.
- Target's own price drops: if Target lowers the price within 14 days of your purchase, you can request the difference with your receipt.
- Target Circle deals on the identical item.
- Target Plus partner items sold on Target.com, when it's an exact match.
What Target won't match
- Any outside retailer: Amazon (even items sold and shipped by Amazon), Walmart, Best Buy, Costco and others.
- Clearance, damaged or refurbished items.
- Target-specific offers such as Circle bonus rewards and registry completion coupons.
- Some categories, such as alcohol and pharmacy purchases.
The item must be identical, and the lower price must be active and verifiable by Target. An expired sale or a screenshot usually won't be accepted.
How to get a Target price match or adjustment
- At checkout: open the Target app, find the item's lower Target.com price and show it to the cashier or Guest Services before paying.
- After you buy: within 14 days, bring your receipt (or order number) to Guest Services, or contact Target online if you bought on Target.com.
- Double-check the item: the size, model and color must match exactly.
How to still pay the lowest price when Target won't match
Without competitor matching, you have to find out before you buy whether Target is actually the cheapest option. For groceries and household items, the difference between Target, Walmart, Costco and others can be significant, and it changes week to week.
- Scan the barcode of the item on the shelf with Price Match Paradise. No account needed to start.
- Review matching offers across supported retailer sources, with stock status and price-match guidance when the retailer data is available.
- Decide in the aisle: ask for a match, buy it here because it's already the best price, or pick it up where it's cheaper.
- Buying electronics? Best Buy still matches Target (Target is on Best Buy's competitor list). If Target has a lower price on a TV or headphones, you can ask Best Buy to match it.
- Home and tools? Home Depot and Lowe's match qualifying competitors, so a scan can save you a second trip.
