Walmart price matches only Walmart.com. In a US Walmart store, if the identical item is cheaper and in stock on Walmart.com, you can ask for that price at checkout. Walmart does not match competitors like Amazon, Target or Aldi, and it doesn't refund the difference if a price drops after you buy.
How Walmart's price match works in 2026
Walmart used to match competitor ads, but its US policy is now narrow. According to Walmart's published policy, a US store will match the price of an identical item advertised on Walmart.com when:
- The item is exactly the same: size, model, quantity, brand and color.
- It's in stock and available to buy on Walmart.com at the moment you ask.
- It's sold by Walmart itself, not a Marketplace seller.
- You tell an associate at checkout, before you pay.
Quantities are limited to one per customer, per item, per day. The policy doesn't apply in Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, and the store manager has the final say.
What Walmart will and won't match
| Situation | Matched? |
|---|---|
| Walmart.com price is lower than the shelf price, sold by Walmart, in stock | Yes |
| Amazon, Target, Costco, Aldi or any other competitor's price | No |
| Walmart.com Rollback, clearance, Black Friday or Cyber Monday, or other limited-time events | No |
| Walmart Marketplace or third-party seller prices | No |
| Bundles, instant rebates or percentage-off deals | No |
| A lower price at a different Walmart store | No |
| Price dropped after you bought it (online or in store) | No |
How to ask for a Walmart price match (step by step)
- Open Walmart.com or the Walmart app on your phone and find the exact item, sold by Walmart.
- Check it's in stock online and that the listing isn't a Rollback or clearance event.
- Tell the cashier before they finish ringing you up, or go to customer service first. Self-checkout can't override prices, so ask an associate.
- Show the live listing and point out the matching size and model.
Once you've paid, there's no published adjustment window to fall back on, so ask before you pay.
Walmart won't match competitors. Here's how to still pay the lowest price
Since Walmart won't lower its price to beat Target or Costco, the only way to know you're getting a good deal is to compare before you buy. Walmart is often cheap, but not always. Brand-name household items, baby care, pharmacy and small electronics can cost less elsewhere.
Checking five store websites in the middle of the aisle isn't realistic. Scanning one barcode is:
- Scan the barcode of the item on the shelf with Price Match Paradise. No account needed to start.
- Review matching offers across supported retailer sources, with stock status and price-match guidance when the retailer data is available.
- Decide in the aisle: ask for a match, buy it here because it's already the best price, or pick it up where it's cheaper.
Two tips that work especially well with Walmart:
- Other stores will match Walmart's price. Best Buy lists Walmart as a qualified competitor, and Home Depot and Lowe's match major retailers. If you'd rather shop there, show them Walmart's price.
- Scan your receipt afterwards. Walmart won't refund price drops, but the receipt scanner shows which items were cheaper elsewhere so you know where to buy next time.
Walmart vs. other stores' price matching
| Store | Matches competitors? |

| Target | Target's own prices only (since July 2025) |
| Best Buy | Yes, including Walmart |
| Home Depot / Lowe's | Yes, identical in-stock items |
| Costco | No (30-day price adjustment on its own prices) |
