Most major retailers don't price match Black Friday deals. Best Buy blocks competitor matching from Thursday, Nov 19 through Monday, Nov 30, 2026. Walmart, Home Depot and Lowe's exclude Black Friday and special-event prices, and Target only matches its own prices. What still works: stores' own price-drop refunds after you buy, and comparing prices yourself before you check out.

Store-by-store Black Friday rules
| Store | Matches competitors on Black Friday? | What still works |
|---|---|---|
| Best Buy | No, blackout Nov 19–30 | Best Buy's own price drops within your return window. Normal competitor matching resumes Dec 1. |
| Walmart | No | Walmart never matches competitors, and Black Friday and Cyber Monday prices on Walmart.com are excluded from its in-store match. |
| Target | No | Matches its own lower prices. In 2025 Target ran a Holiday Price Match Guarantee from Nov 1 to Dec 24. Watch for the 2026 announcement. |
| Home Depot | No | Black Friday and promotional events are excluded. Regular matching applies outside the event. |
| Lowe's | No | Black Friday and holiday promotions are excluded. Regular matching applies outside the event. |
| Costco | No | Costco's 30-day price adjustment on its own price drops, subject to its usual rules. |
Holiday terms are often announced in early November and can differ from the regular policy. Check each store's holiday terms before you rely on them.
5 strategies that still save money
1. Buy early, then claim the drop
If a store refunds its own price drops, buying during early sales is low-risk. If the price goes lower on Black Friday, claim the difference within the window. Target's holiday guarantee and Costco's 30-day adjustment work this way. Set a reminder so you don't miss it.
2. Know the real price before the sale starts
"Was $199, now $129" only means something if $199 was a real price. Scan the items on your list in late October or early November to see what they actually cost across stores. Then you'll recognize a genuine deal when it appears.
3. Compare in the aisle on the day
Doorbuster signs create urgency. A 2-second scan tells you whether another store has the same item cheaper right now:
- Scan the barcode of the item on the shelf with Price Match Paradise. No account needed to start.
- Review matching offers across supported retailer sources, with stock status and price-match guidance when the retailer data is available.
- Decide in the aisle: ask for a match, buy it here because it's already the best price, or pick it up where it's cheaper.
4. Watch for Black Friday-only models
Some TVs and electronics are made in special versions for the sale, with slightly different model numbers and specs. They're often hard to compare and never eligible for matching. Scan the barcode to see if the exact model is sold elsewhere.
5. Use Best Buy's normal matching after the blackout
If you're buying electronics and can wait, Best Buy's competitor matching returns after Cyber Monday. Early December prices on some items stay close to Black Friday levels.
How to spot a fake Black Friday deal
- An inflated "was" price. If the item was never actually sold at the "original" price, the discount is fiction.
- A different model. A familiar brand name at a surprising price can be a cheaper variant made for the sale.
- Bundles you don't need. A bundle can look like a deal while costing more than buying the one item you want.
- The same price as last month. Some "deals" are just the regular price with a red tag.
- A cheaper price elsewhere. The easiest check of all: scan it and compare.
